Manhattan & Brooklyn Bosch Oven Repair

Bosch Oven Not Heating: From Demo Mode to a Dead Bake Element

An oven that lights up but stays cold has a short list of causes: half of the 240V supply missing, demo mode or a child lock quietly switched on, a bake element that no longer glows, or a sensor-and-board pair misreading the temperature. Some of these you can clear in two minutes - here is how to tell which one you have.

Not Heating, Explained

Bosch Ovens: Warm Panel, Cold Cavity

Bosch wall oven control panel with the clock display during a check

Check the Two-Minute Fixes First

Demo mode after a power cut, the child lock (a key symbol on the display), or one leg of the 240V supply gone at the breaker - in all three cases the panel looks alive while the cavity stays cold. Flip the breaker fully off and on, hold the key button to unlock, check the manual for demo mode. If that revives it, dinner is saved and you did not need us.

Bosch oven display set to 400 degrees during a bake temperature test

Broil Works, Bake Doesn't

The classic split: broiler glows, bake barely warms. We have seen a Bosch stall at 152 degrees on bake while broil ran perfectly - the owner was finishing pies under the broiler and flipping them. Usually the bake element (it should glow evenly red) or its relay; we test the element before anyone pays for a control board.

Overheats, Cuts Out or Won't Hold Temperature

E302 or E115 on the display, or the oven simply shuts off mid-bake. The temperature sensor and the control board read as a pair - we meet plenty of ovens where someone already swapped the sensor and the fault stayed. Measuring both sides of that pair first is what keeps you from buying parts twice.

The Board Behind the Glass

E118 means the display and control boards stopped talking. Dead touch zones, a panel that reboots itself, fans running with no power reaching the elements - all board-level faults. Boards for these ovens run from $100 used to $700 new, so we diagnose to the board before you commit to one.

Every Bosch Oven We Repair

Bosch double wall oven with microwave during service

Bosch HBL & HBLP Wall Ovens

The single and double wall ovens built into cabinetry all over Brooklyn and Manhattan - HBL435 to HBL8752 and the HBLP line. Elements, sensors, door hinges that stop pulling the door tight: all serviceable in place.

Bosch gas range in a kitchen with patterned backsplash

Bosch Ranges & Dual-Fuel

Gas and dual-fuel ranges where a flame that quits mid-heat usually means a tired thermocouple or safety valve - parts chosen strictly by model. We test rather than guess, and the burners get checked while we are there.

Bosch slide-in range installed in an NYC kitchen

Bosch Slide-In & Freestanding

The 300 and 800 Series slide-ins that anchor most NYC kitchens. Bake element and sensor jobs are same-visit repairs; older models with tired touchpads get an honest verdict, not an automatic 'replace it'.

Bosch oven and microwave combo tower built into cabinetry

Bosch Oven + Microwave Combos

The wall tower with a microwave above the oven - one appliance to the building, two sets of electronics to us. We service both halves and know which faults live in the shared power supply.

Not the oven? We repair the whole Bosch lineup - dishwashers, washers, dryers and more. See every Bosch appliance we repair

★★★★★

Tim came to fix my stove that a handyman tried to fix and could not. He was on time, did a great job, and now I have a working stove. The price is a little more than others, but you get what you pay for and they were excellent!

Very responsive and reasonably priced. I've used them twice - for a W/D repair and an Oven door repair. Both times they arrived promptly and were able to fix the issue without the need to return. Also very pleasant to deal with. Would recommend!

Bosch Oven FAQ

Bosch Oven Questions

How do I reset a Bosch oven?

+
Flip the breaker fully off, wait a minute, flip it back. That clears most control glitches, including odd behavior after a power cut. If the oven lights up but still will not heat, check for the key symbol (child lock) and demo mode before assuming a fault.

Why is my oven turning on but not getting hot?

+
Because the panel and the heat run on different things. The display needs 120V; the elements need the full 240V, so one lost breaker leg lights the panel and leaves the cavity cold. Beyond that: demo mode, child lock, a dead bake element or a relay on the board.

The oven stopped heating after a power cut. Coincidence?

+
No - it is the most common trigger we see. Surges flip ovens into demo mode, scramble the control, or take out one breaker leg. Do the full breaker reset first; if heat does not come back, the surge may have taken a board relay with it.

Broil works but bake doesn't. What is that?

+
Almost always the bake element or its relay. A healthy element glows evenly red; a dead one stays gray while the broiler above works fine. It is one of the most affordable oven repairs - not a reason to shop for a new oven.

What does the key symbol on my Bosch oven mean?

+
That is the child lock - and with it on, the oven ignores start commands, which reads as 'not heating'. Press and hold the key button for a few seconds to release it. It switches itself on surprisingly often after power blips.

How much does a Bosch oven repair cost?

+
The visit is $150 in Manhattan and $100 in Brooklyn, applied to the repair if you go ahead. Elements and sensors are the affordable end; boards cost more, which is exactly why we diagnose to the component before you commit.

What is the life expectancy of a Bosch oven?

+
15 years and beyond is common - the cavity and frame basically do not age, and elements, sensors, hinges and even boards are all replaceable. For a built-in wall oven, repair usually beats reworking cabinetry for a new unit.

Is this the same for Thermador ovens?

+
Yes - Thermador is built by the same group as Bosch, and the wall ovens share platforms and failure patterns. Everything on this page, from the breaker check to the sensor-board pair, applies to Thermador too.

No glowBake element stays gray while broil works - element or its relay, an affordable fix
