Common AC Problems

AC Problems We Fix Every Week

AC Running but Not Cooling

A unit that blows air but never gets cold usually has a dirty coil, a failed capacitor, or low refrigerant from a slow leak. We test pressures, find the real cause, and fix that - not just top off gas that will leak out again.

AC Leaking Water Inside

Water dripping from a PTAC or wall unit is almost always a clogged condensate drain or a frozen coil thawing out. Turn the unit off first - running it can flood the wall or the neighbor below. Usually a one-visit fix.

PTAC Not Cooling or Not Heating

The under-window units in condos, co-ops, and offices. Boards and capacitors we repair in place; when the sealed system is done, repair isn't worth it - we swap in a new unit through the same wall sleeve. Ice Air, Islandaire, Daikin, McQuay, Simon-Aire, Applied Comfort, ClimateMaster.

No Cold Air From a Water-Source Unit

High-rises run on shared water-loop heat pumps. Short cycling, fan noise, or no cold air usually means a control fault, a clogged coil, or a dead blower motor. We diagnose in place instead of waiting on the building's vendor.

HVAC FAQ

AC Repair Questions

Do you offer same-day AC service?

+
Most AC calls in Manhattan and Brooklyn get a same-day or next-day visit when you call before 1 PM. In a heat wave slots go fast - call early in the day.

Is my AC leaking water an emergency?

+
Turn the unit off first - running it can flood the wall or the apartment below. Most indoor leaks are a clogged condensate drain or a frozen coil, and both are usually a one-visit fix.

What is the $5000 rule for AC?

+
Multiply the unit's age by the repair quote - over $5,000, replacement usually makes more sense; under it, repair wins. A 5-year-old PTAC with a $300 fix stays; a 15-year-old one with an $800 compressor goes.

My PTAC runs but doesn't cool. Should I reset it first?

+
Try it: power off at the breaker for 5 minutes, then restart. If it still blows warm, it's usually a dirty coil, a failed capacitor, or low refrigerant - and refrigerant work needs an EPA-certified tech.

Can a through-the-wall AC be repaired?

+
Yes. Fan motors, control boards, thermostats, and refrigerant leaks are all repairable in place. If the chassis is done, we replace it using the same wall sleeve - no masonry work.

How much does AC repair cost?

+
The visit is $150 in Manhattan and $100 in Brooklyn, applied to the repair, and you get the repair price before we start. You approve it or you don't - no surprise charges.

Are your technicians insured?

+
Yes, we're a fully insured local team, not an offshore call center. We can provide a COI for your building when management asks.

Do you repair window AC units?

+
No - for a removable window unit, repair usually costs more than a new one, so we're honest about that. We service PTAC, water-source, through-the-wall, central, and light commercial systems.
